Wiola Sowa
Director of animated films, graphic designer. Graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She did her diploma, honored with the Academy Rector’s Award, in the Prof. Jerzy Kucia’s Animated Film Studio. Animated films created during her studies: ‘Water drop’ (1997), ‘A dream’ (1998), and above all, the diploma movie ‘Between us’ (2000), competed in many national and international festivals (in Annecy, Leipzig, Dresden, Moscow amongst others).
Winner of the ‘Styendium Twórcze Miasta Krakowa’ grant for movies, recieved an honorable mention on the 5th edition of OFAFA and the Special Prize for artistic features awarded by the jury of 9th ETIUDA in Cracow. The ‘Between us’ movie were displayed in the Centre Pompidou in Paris, on The New Generation of Polish Cinema in London, and in the travelling retrospective exhibition ’55 years of Polish animated film’. For the ‘Choruses’ movie (2007), the Artist was awarded with the Silver Dragon, the Silver Lajkonik, and the FIPRESCI prize, at the 48th Kraków Film Festival, the Golden Line at the OFAFA festival, the Special Jury Prize at the Monstra festival in Lisbon and Animateka festival in Ljubljana, and the Audience Award at the Etiuda&Anima festival.
Her latest movie ‘XOXO kisses and hugs’ got a Special Honorable Mention in 2017, at the International Animated Film Festival ‘Animateka’ in Ljubljana and the Special Jury Prize at the International Animated Film Festival in Hiroshima, in 2018.
The director is living and working in Cracow.
